People taking taxis passing through road toll gates to go to work and back could save Dh8 ($2.17) daily, a senior Road and Transport Authority (RTA) official has said.
Eisa Al Dousary, chief executive officer of RTA’s Public Transportation Agency, said road toll charges will be waived from December 2, 2008, the UAE National Day, for taxi passengers in Dubai.
The exemption, however, does not apply to taxi units registered in other emirates.
Passengers pay a Dh4 road toll fee with each pass under a Salik gate.
The announcement was made on Sunday as part of a raft of measures to improve taxi services in the city.
