People taking taxis passing through road toll gates to go to work and back could save Dh8 ($2.17) daily, a senior Road and Transport Authority (RTA) official has said.

Eisa Al Dousary, chief executive officer of RTA’s Public Transportation Agency, said road toll charges will be waived from December 2, 2008, the UAE National Day, for taxi passengers in Dubai.

The exemption, however, does not apply to taxi units registered in other emirates.

Passengers pay a Dh4 road toll fee with each pass under a Salik gate.

The announcement was made on Sunday as part of a raft of measures to improve taxi services in the city.

Dubai Opportunity: Dubai RTA in search for more female taxi drivers

6 Oct

Dubai Taxi has currently 20 female-only taxi being operated and is planning to increase upto 50 by the end of this year according to the CEO of Dubai Taxi Agency.  Therefore, the agency is in search for 30 more female drivers. It was learned that women drivers can expect housing package, more salary than men but less time for driving.  They are also entitled of commissions depending on the returns. Women taxi drivers work a 10-hour shift either from 6am to 4pm or from 4pm to 2am. Male drivers work 12 hours or more per day.

If you are a woman and interested to drive one of these women taxis then forward your CV to www.rta.ae.

Dubai Taxi is probably the third country in the world with a fleet of taxi exclusively for women passengers.
